DLA Piper

The Challenge

Back in 2012, Spitfire Control managed the relocation of DLA Piper into 1 Martin Place. Fast forward 10 years and 6 other projects across the country, we were again appointed to assist in their workplace renewal. Do they stay or go? And if they stay, how can that be achieved without impacting the staff and operation of a busy international law firm?

The Solution

DLA Piper elected to remain at 1 Martin Place in recognition of the quality of the building and it’s iconic location. Through detailed planning, and collaboration with the building team from the very start we were able to chart a delivery solution that limited the impact upon staff, and ensured no-one needed to move more than once.

As they were staying in the same floors, but totally reconfiguring the space, the designers (Hassell) were able to identify and remedy shortcomings with the previous design. The most significant of these was the location of the stair. The new design moved it to a different location, and also opened up major voids within the floors to allow natural light and connections to flow where previously the rear of the floor was dark and unloved.

The office where Snowy Hydro were based in Sydney was an iconic location on a wharf in the shadow of the harbour bridge. However, the space was tired and awkward. It was simply not performing as required. Spitfire Control was appointed to change things.

Makinson d’Apice had been in their existing office space for many years and the configuration was starting to impact upon their business. They needed to move to new premises that could allow them to grow, and better more effective, but not at an increase to their bottom line.
