The office where Snowy Hydro were based in Sydney was an iconic location on a wharf in the shadow of the harbour bridge. However, the space was tired and awkward. It was simply not performing as required. Spitfire Control was appointed to change things.
This was our fifth project with Snowy Hydro and so we knew the senior staff well. We knew they needed to move but it also needed to be cost neutral.
To achieve this lofty goal, we engaged a workplace consultant to imagine alternative scenarios for Snowy, taking less space but making every inch work. We then engaged a tenant advisor to find the optimum site. The end result was a low floor in Grosvenor Place. A quality building but at the right cost profile and through careful design, delivery and space use the new office met that goal.
It is terrific walking through their new office and seeing it full of staff, quietly going about their roles where previously the wharf was empty and unloved with most people electing to work from home. Good design is a powerful tool when done right.
Makinson d’Apice had been in their existing office space for many years and the configuration was starting to impact upon their business. They needed to move to new premises that could allow them to grow, and better more effective, but not at an increase to their bottom line.
